World Mountain Day- 11 December
World Mountain Day. we all know that there are so many Mountains in the Earth. About one billion people are living in the Mountain regions. Therefore over half of the population depends on the Mountains for food and water.
The climatic change, disasters was indicated by the Mountains. These beautiful Mountains giving shelter, food, water to human and as well as animals. A lot of medicinal plants also provided by the Mountains. These amazing Mountains cover 22 percent on the earth's surface and giving home for 13 percent of world's population.
This year theme was based on the Mountain hunger: climate, migration. Most of the countries took action to maintain the resources of the Mountains and also focused on the challenges faced by the people who are living in the Mountain regions.
Also 70% of world's freshwater are taken from Mountains. These Mountains also used as a resource for solar energy, hydro power station, wind energy and bio gas. Rocky Mountains contains resources like copper, gold, lead, etc.
The dictionary meaning also says that "Higher and Steeper than a Hill". These Mountains are formed by Earth crust smashed against each other called plate tectonics and buckle up like hood car. likewise the Himalayan Mountain also formed. It takes a millions and millions of years to form like a Mountain shape.
